What is the numerology calculator?

Indian numerology, or ank jyotish, reduces your date of birth and your name to single digits and reads each against a ruling planet. The two core numbers come from the date. Your mulank — the psychic or root number — is the day of the month you were born, reduced to a single digit. Your bhagyank — the destiny or life-path number — comes from adding every digit of the full date and reducing that.

The name adds a third number. This calculator gives both the Chaldean value, which is the system Indian numerologists overwhelmingly use, and the Pythagorean value used more widely in the West. They differ in a specific way: Chaldean assigns no letter the value 9, treating it as sacred, and its letter values follow sound rather than alphabetical order. Where the two disagree, Indian practice quotes the Chaldean number.

Each digit from 1 to 9 maps to a graha — 1 to the Sun, 2 to the Moon, 3 to Jupiter, 4 to Rahu, 5 to Mercury, 6 to Venus, 7 to Ketu, 8 to Saturn, 9 to Mars. That mapping is the bridge between numerology and astrology, and it is why a numerologist will often ask to see your kundli before recommending a spelling change. Master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are reported here rather than silently collapsed, since several schools read them separately.

How this calculator works

  1. 1

    Enter your date of birth

This alone gives your mulank and bhagyank. No birth time or place is needed — numerology works on the calendar date.

  2. 2

    Add your full name (optional)

Entering your name unlocks the Chaldean and Pythagorean name numbers plus your soul-urge and personality numbers.

  3. 3

    Digits are reduced

Each total is reduced to a single digit, and the calculator shows every step of the reduction so you can check the arithmetic yourself.

  4. 4

Read the numbers and their planets

You get each number, its ruling graha, and whether a master number appeared along the way.

Frequently asked questions

Mulank comes from the day of the month alone and is read as your innate nature, the way you experience yourself. Bhagyank comes from the entire date of birth and is read as your life direction and the outcomes you tend toward.

The name you actually go by day to day — the one people use and that appears on your documents. That is the name numerology treats as carrying vibration, not a formal name you never use.

Indian numerology uses Chaldean, which assigns values by sound and never assigns 9 to a letter. Pythagorean maps A–I to 1–9 alphabetically and is the Western standard. Both are shown here; the Chaldean number is the one Indian practice quotes.

When a total lands on 11, 22 or 33 before final reduction, many schools read it as a master number with its own significance rather than reducing it away. This calculator flags them and still shows the reduced digit.

Not on a calculator result alone. A numerologist reads the name number against your kundli — a change that improves the number but conflicts with your chart is not an improvement. Discuss it with an astrologer first.

No. Numerology works entirely from the calendar date and the name, so no birth time or place is required.
