What is the mangal dosha calculator?
Mangal dosha — being manglik or kuja dosha — is present when Mars occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of a chart. Because Mars signifies aggression, energy and conflict, and because those houses govern the self, family, home, marriage, longevity and loss, the classical texts flag the combination as a source of friction in married life.
The dosha is checked from more than one reference point. Most astrologers examine it from the lagna, from the Moon and from Venus, and a chart flagged from only one of the three is treated as far milder than one flagged from all three. This calculator reports which houses Mars occupies and the resulting strength, rather than reducing it to a yes or no.
Equally important are the cancellations. Mangal dosha is considered nullified in a number of well-documented situations — when Mars is in its own sign or exalted, when both partners are manglik, when Mars is aspected by Jupiter, and after certain ages, among others. A very large share of charts that a quick online tool labels "manglik" carry one of these cancellations. Treat the result here as a screening step, not a verdict.

Frequently asked questions
It means Mars sits in one of six houses — 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th — that classical Jyotish associates with marital harmony, and Mars is considered to disturb them.
Yes. The tradition offers several accepted paths, most commonly matching with another manglik so the dosha cancels, or applying remedies. Many charts also carry an automatic cancellation the person is unaware of. This is exactly the kind of question worth putting to an astrologer rather than an online tool.
Common cancellations include Mars being in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or exalted in Capricorn, Mars aspected by or conjunct Jupiter, and both partners carrying the dosha. The rules interact, so a chart-specific reading is what settles it.
That is where it is discussed most, because the houses involved are the marriage-related ones. Mars placement also affects temperament, conflict and property matters more generally.
Several traditions hold that its effect weakens after about 28, and some treat marriage after that age as substantially mitigating it. Not all schools agree, so it is treated as a mitigating factor rather than a clean expiry.
